Some of you may know that I recently got to travel to Armenia and spend time there with the staff of the Acopian Center for the Environment. I wrote about my experiences and posted some photos.
A new book is out about the Armenian-Turkish relationship, long mired in a feud about the Armenian Genocide. It is a crime in Turkey to even call the events of WWI “genocide”, where over a million Armenians were forcibly relocated and died in the process. The Turks’ refusal to budge on admitting to this act has caused a rift between the countries that is still strong today. When I was in Armenia in September 2010, the border with Turkey was still closed and there were demonstrations in Yerevan, the capital, over Armenia’s proposal to normalize relations with Turkey.
