This is a small, comfortable oasis from the world located in an old, historic part of Harrisburg. It is hidden away very near the river and is worth the trip from wherever you are. Char’s reminds me of the small and wonderful restaurants in the California wine country. This one even has beautiful art glass displayed inside. It has nice ambiance with a very nice bar. The menu is full of country french dishes and bistro plates. There is usually a fresh fish of the day done in an innovative way. There would be little fear of not finding something for anyone in a group. They take special care to have a good vegetarian dish or two on the menu. I had superb meals there a couple of times when the sous was in the kitchen, Ron Canady, and he came out to our table to talk to us each time. The service is very good and their wine list is pretty good, though not too deep. I have been unconditionally recommending Char’s to my friends for about a year and no one has been disappointed. It’s worth the hour plus drive for a special occasion, but in my opinion, being there for a meal makes it a special occasion.
